The newer web-based version is the recommended alternativeto the server and client version described in this topic.If you do not already have Release Management installed,we encourage you to use the web-based version in TFS 2015Update 2 and above or Azure Pipelines insteadof the version described here.If you are already using an earlier server and clientversion, you should be aware that no new features willbe added to these versions.

Before you install Release Management Server, its client, or the MicrosoftDeployment Agent, make sure your system meets the operating system andhardware requirements described in this topic.

Release Management server

These are the software requirements for the Release Management server.

Operating systems:

  • Windows Server 2012 R2

Team Foundation Server (TFS)

Release Management is typically used with TFS to deploy builds produced byTFS and to synchronize users managed in TFS. Release Management can be usedwith the following versions of TFS:

  • Team Foundation Server 2013
  • Team Foundation Server 2012
  • Team Foundation Server 2010

Note
